About The Position

This is a promotional opportunity for current LA Department of Corrections employees who have permanent status and are ready to advance in their career. As a Shift Supervisor at Raymond Laborde Correctional Center (RLCC), the incumbent will help oversee daily operations within a Class 2 facility that houses 1,808 adult male offenders ranging from minimum to maximum custody. RLCC is staffed by 355 authorized positions, along with supplemental unclassified and temporary employees who support institutional needs. The mission of the Louisiana Department of Corrections is to promote public safety and strengthen communities through fair, professional, and responsive corrections services. Requirements

  • Four years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following: 1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR 2. One year of experience in any field; OR 3. Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.
  • Two years of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Lieutenant in the State service.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
  • An applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possession of a current driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Make rounds during duty ensuring that officers under his supervision are performing their duties in accordance with D.O.C. regulations and RLCC Policy and Procedures.
  • Ensures that security is available to cover all areas as mandated by ACA Standards.
  • Inspects all security under his/ her supervision for proper dress code.
  • Responsible for reviewing paperwork, including but not limited to, Warden’s unusual occurrence reports, D.B. reports, inspections, timesheets, etc., generated during his/ her shift.
  • Initial each document verifying the document is correct.

Benefits

  • Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $26.37 per hour.
  • Premium Pay: A rate between $.50 an hour and $1.00 an hour for each hour worked based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
