Corrections Food Service Instructor - SCI Coal Township
About The Position
The Corrections Food Service Instructor supports safe and efficient food service operations at the State Correctional Institution at Coal Township. The instructor leads inmate workers and teaches core food preparation skills, helping ensure meals are prepared correctly while reinforcing safe practices and proper sanitation. The position also involves maintaining the care, custody, and control of inmates during food service operations. This is a full-time position scheduled for 40 hours per week. Shifts include 4:30 AM to 12:30 PM or 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM on a rotating schedule; the specific schedule will be determined. The position is not eligible for telework. Selected candidates new to Commonwealth of Pennsylvania employment begin at an annual salary of $49,010 before taxes. Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania is required. Candidates must pass a background investigation and meet CJIS compliance requirements.
Requirements
- Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or similar large-scale food production operation, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Teach inmates to prepare, produce, and serve meals according to recipes and standards.
- Inspect tools, equipment, and food service areas to ensure cleanliness and safety compliance.
- Receive, store, and track food and supplies, following first-in, first-out procedures.
- Assign tasks to inmate workers, review their performance, and maintain records.
- Maintain the care, custody, and control of inmates during food service operations.
