About The Position

The Corrections Food Service Instructor supports food service operations at the State Correctional Institution at Camp Hill by leading and teaching inmate workers. The role helps ensure meals are prepared and served safely, efficiently, and sanitarily while reinforcing safety, teamwork, and daily routines. The position includes teaching food preparation and service skills, overseeing kitchen safety and sanitation, managing food inventory, coordinating work assignments, and maintaining care, custody, and control of inmates during assigned work activities.

This is a full-time, non-telework position. Work hours are either 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM or a swing schedule of 4:30 PM to 12:30 AM and 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with rotating days off. New Commonwealth of Pennsylvania employees start at an annual salary of $49,010 before taxes. Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania is required.

Requirements

• At least two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or similar large-scale food production operation; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.
• Ability to perform the essential job functions.
• Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Teach inmates proper methods for food preparation, baking, service, and meal timing.
• Ensure safe and sanitary use of kitchen tools, equipment, and work areas.
• Inspect food, equipment, and service areas to ensure they meet established standards.
• Requisition, receive, store, and track food items while following first-in, first-out procedures.
• Plan, assign, and review inmate work duties and maintain required records.
• Maintain care, custody, and control of inmates during assigned work activities.
