About The Position

Iron County is accepting applications to create a hiring roster for future Corrections Deputy openings at the Iron County Jail. The roster may be used for 12 months; this posting does not represent an immediate position opening. The entry-level minimum starting wage is $26.79 per hour. For P.O.S.T.-certified applicants, salary will be based on experience and qualifications or certifications. Under current policy, up to 10 years of verifiable corrections experience may be credited year for year within the established pay range. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is available to applicants who already hold the required Utah certifications, subject to a two-year employment commitment. Applicants who are hired without certification will need to complete a 10-week P.O.S.T. Corrections Officer Training Program. Because the academy entails significant costs for Iron County, uncertified hires will be asked to commit to two years of employment after completing the required certification. A prorated portion of training costs may be owed for any months of the agreement not completed. The position involves duties including monitoring inmate security, transporting inmates, preparing written documentation, conducting inmate searches, and physically restraining violent inmates. Applicants must submit a completed Iron County Corrections Deputy application and required documentation. Qualified applicants who submit all required information by the deadline will be notified of the physical agility testing date and should plan to attend. Testing will take place at the Iron County Correctional Facility in Cedar City, Utah.
