Requirements

At least 18 years of age
High school education or equivalent
Valid driver's license
Must be able to legally possess a firearm and ammunition
Successful completion of examination and screening process
Must pass a medical exam
Must pass a drug test
Must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program to include CPR, first aid, firearms, and self-defense tactics.

Responsibilities

Monitor inmates/offenders in a wide variety of situations and activities, either directly or indirectly through subordinate Correctional Officers.
Enforce facility rules and regulations governing the conduct of inmates/offenders.
Conduct and evaluate on-the-job training for newly assigned Corrections Officers, if applicable.
Document inmate/offender behavior, status, and movement.
Search inmates'/offenders' person, quarters, and work areas for contraband.
Operate or monitor the operation of manual, computerized and/or electronically controlled security equipment, maintaining controlled movement of inmates/offenders, staff members, and the public.
Responsible for inmate/offender housing areas, including sanitation, serving meals, laundry inventory, and supplies.
Maintain all daily control documentation, such as logs and counts.
May be in charge of visiting areas, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations.
Transport or oversee the transportation of inmates/offenders who leave the facility on any form of transportation into the community.
Assist supervisory staff in the operation of maximum security areas, such as segregation units.
Recommend improvements to security procedures when appropriate.
