About The Position

This position is responsible for monitoring and controlling the movement of jail personnel, inmates, and visitors within the jail. The officer utilizes various security systems and communication tools to ensure safety and security within the facility.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate.
  • Must pass job-related tests.
  • Must be a United States citizen, a lawful permanent resident, or a deferred action for childhood arrival (DACA) recipient.
  • Must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
  • Ability to respond effectively in crisis or emergency situations.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment under stressful circumstances.
  • Ability to remain alert and responsive.
  • Ability to identify suspicious acts utilizing T.V. monitors.
  • Ability to monitor and operate a variety of detection devices and equipment simultaneously.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret work-related laws, ordinances, and established policies, procedures, and practices of the Snohomish County Jail.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral instructions and written procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other criminal justice system staff, county employees, and the general public.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of work experience in a psychiatric, detention or juvenile center.
  • College level course work in the area of corrections, law enforcement, police science, law and justice or social services.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the movement of jail personnel, inmates, and visitors using TV monitors, radios, and intercoms.
  • Monitors security systems including module housing alarms, door hinge pin alarms, window detectors, panic button alarms, and smoke/fire detectors.
  • Controls the movement of jail personnel, inmates, and visitors.
  • Observes and responds to unauthorized movements and emergency situations.
  • Corrects unauthorized movements via voice commands when possible.
  • Routes officers and/or patrol cars to designated locations.
  • Summons outside police, fire, and medical assistance as necessary.
  • Maintains radio communications with custody officers and operates internal radio systems.
  • Answers phone calls and relays information to authorized persons.
  • Controls and issues keys and maintains the jail key log.
  • Performs related duties as required.
