Enhances public safety of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia and Department of Corrections staff and inmates, by meeting re-entry objectives and by providing effective security, programming, custody and control of adult inmates in a major correctional facility. Ability to advocate for the business needs of the Department of Corrections. Supports the organizational objective to provide major renovation and construction services to agencies within the Commonwealth of Virginia utilizing inmate workforce labor. The Correction Construction Unit Superintendent “owns” the day-to-day functions and responsibilities for their job site, including, but not limited to, planning, coordinating and supervising a variety of semi-skilled VADOC inmates, ensuring project safety, managing material delivery/control, promoting quality control and providing technical assistance related to construction methods and equipment. The Construction Superintendent is expected to exercise sound judgment, to identify, coordinate and use resources appropriately, to anticipate and pro-actively resolve conflicts and to deliver their project in accordance with design, budget and schedule expectations. Regular out of town, weeklong overnight travel required in performance of job duties.
