About The Position

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a Corrections Clerk II to work at the Vienna Correctional Center. This position is responsible for supervising incoming and outgoing individual in custody mail, maintaining a permanent record for individuals in custody concerning letters received and sent, and accepting money through mail sent to facility. In addition, this position will return mail to sender, serve as lead worker and enforce and maintain safety, sanitation, security and custodial measures in the mailroom.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
  • Requires two (2) years clerical experience.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen.
  • Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of working experience in a mail room.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of working experience maintaining and keeping records.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of working experience following office methods and procedures.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of working experience in a correctional facility.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of working experience implementing safety and security procedures.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of working experience in report writing using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises incoming and outgoing individual in custody mail.
  • Maintains permanent record for each individual in custody mail record concerning letters received and sent.
  • Accepts money for Individual in Custody Trust Fund through mail sent to facility.
  • Returns mail to sender if intended individual in custody is on parole, discharged or transferred.
  • Serves as lead worker.
  • Enforces and maintains safety and sanitation, security and custodial measures of the Mailroom are met.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
