About The Position

This is a promotional opportunity for current LA Department of Corrections employees who have permanent status and are ready to advance in their career. The incumbent of this position will serve as the Security Assistant Warden at Rayburn Correctional Center (RCC). As Corrections Assistant Warden 3, the incumbent will manage and coordinate the security program by performing highly responsible supervisory and administrative security work in the organization, coordination and direction of these units. Duties involve responsibility for assisting in the planning of security procedures and regulation which govern the control of offenders.

Requirements

  • Four years of supervisory-level experience in a correctional institution, penal institution, or prison enterprises plus one of the following: 1. Six years of full-time experience in any field; or 2. A bachelor's degree.
  • A master's degree plus three years of supervisory-level experience in a correctional institution, penal institution, or prison enterprises.
  • A doctorate plus two years of supervisory-level experience in a correctional institution, penal institution, or prison enterprises.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by State and Federal laws is granted.
  • An applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.

  • Applicants must authorize the HR Office of DPS&C-Corrections Services to contact previous employers to check references under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), to be considered for employment, by answering ‘YES’ to the PREA question.

Responsibilities

  • Directs, coordinates, and oversees the unit management system of security at RCC, located on and off the grounds of RCC.
  • Conducts regular inspections to monitor all areas of supervision, to monitor programs and functions, and to ensure all security areas follow sanitation regulations.
  • Reviews problems on a daily basis and makes recommendations regarding the course of action.
  • Notifies the Deputy Warden of these problems and the actions taken or recommendations to solve them.
  • Reviews all security reports, re-classification boards, and recommends custody changes of offenders.
  • Provides administrative authority over the entire Security Program.
  • Assists with other Wardens in the development and review of policies and procedures for the establishment and maintenance of American Correctional Association accreditation standards.
