About The Position

This is a promotional opportunity for current LA Department of Corrections employees who have permanent status and are ready to advance in their career. The incumbent of this position serves as the Deputy Warden of B.B. “Sixty” Rayburn Correctional Center, a level of Care (LOC) 2 facility, housing adult male offenders with 300+ employees. This employee is involved in the management, planning, direction, supervision, rehabilitation, and welfare of the offender population and supervision of it staff.

Requirements

• One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been at the managerial level or above with direct-line supervisory responsibility over two or more subordinates: Four years of supervisory-level experience in a correctional institution, penal institution, or prison enterprises plus one of the following: 1. Six years of full-time experience in any field; or 2. A bachelor's degree.
• A master's degree plus three years of supervisory-level experience in a correctional institution, penal institution, or prison enterprises.
• A doctorate plus two years of supervisory-level experience in a correctional institution, penal institution, or prison enterprises.
• An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by State and Federal laws is granted.
• An applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.

Responsibilities

• Assumes responsibility for the operations in the absence of the Corrections Warden 3.
• Participates in the development of facility policies and procedures with input from various department heads.
• Directs the development of the security operating budget and the food service budget.
• Allocates budgets to various departments for operating funds and monitors expenditures to maintain prescribed funding levels.
• Supervises three Correction Assistant Wardens and one Administrative Assistant 4.
