About The Position

This position is a first-line formal supervisory role dedicated to overseeing or providing supervision for direct care Youth Services Specialists at the Spring Creek Youth Services Center. The role involves managing staff scheduling, juvenile movement, admissions/releases, orientations, security functions, educational support, daily programming, recreation, meals, and medical follow-up. The supervisor is responsible for identifying and addressing staff performance concerns, ensuring compliance with Division of Youth Services (DYS) policies and QAYS DYS Compliance Standards, and integrating principles of trauma responsiveness, the Sanctuary Model, and the DYS Strategic Plan into daily operations as a member of the Youth Center Leadership Team.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of full-time professional corrections-related experience working in a correctional or trauma-informed facility.
  • Corrections-related experience is defined as the custody and control of a detained or adjudicated population and/or experience as a POST Certified Officer, or Military Law Enforcement.
  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted CO Driver's License.
  • Ability to work effectively with key stakeholders, achieving consensus, resolving communication problems, influencing, and managing competing interests.
  • Ability to work well with constituents regardless of position and authority, contribute to governing boards and committees, and adhere to clear lines of responsibility and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise subordinate staff, including Youth Services Specialists I and II, through direct oversight, coaching, and performance management.
  • Manage daily facility operations, including scheduling, staff assignments, and ensuring appropriate staff to youth ratios.
  • Oversee and ensure the safety, security, and well-being of youth, including monitoring movement, conducting counts, and intervening in crisis situations.
  • Ensure compliance with DYS policies, QAYS DYS Compliance Standards, and Sanctuary 7 Commitments.
  • Oversee and maintain youth center programming, including daily living activities, recreation, and educational support.
  • Conduct performance management evaluations, initiate progressive discipline when necessary, and participate in the hiring process.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all facility operations, youth records, incidents, and medication administration.
  • Conduct safety and security inspections, facility searches, and drills to ensure adherence to protocols.
  • Authorize and oversee the use of mechanical restraints and seclusion, and monitor youth Individual Growth and Change Plans.
  • Respond to and resolve youth grievances and conduct Major Rule Violation Hearings.
  • Act as Facility Supervisor when Director and Assistant Director are off-site.
  • Ensure adherence to PREA Policies and Federal Standards to prevent sexual contact in the facility.
  • Role-model, coach, teach, and enforce staff adherence to all policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
