About The Position

The Hearing Officer is responsible for presiding over all hearings for inmate disciplinary reports at the Indian Creek Correctional Center. This role involves receiving and processing all forms related to disciplinary actions, monitoring the penalty offer process, and overseeing, implementing, and administering all procedures related to disciplinary hearings and inmate disciplinary actions. The position contributes to promoting positive inmate behavior by applying consequences to negative behavior and provides staff with an avenue for proper inmate management. The Hearing Officer must maintain compliance with Department policy and Division and Institutional operating procedures.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) policies and procedures.
  • Computer skills to include Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to obtain and evaluate information and/or evidence to conduct a fair and impartial hearing.
  • Ability to make a sound and impartial finding of guilt or innocence and to explain charges, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to synthesize data and conduct hearings in a fair and impartial manner and to document results of the disciplinary hearings.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply policies and guidelines.
  • Ability to train staff and inmates in the application of disciplinary process.

  • Ability to speak Spanish.
  • Considerable knowledge of VADOC Inmate Discipline Procedure.
