About The Position

This internal advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in the Bureau of Admission and Release. The mission of the Bureau of Admission and Release in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to ensure the accurate and efficient processing of inmates entering and exiting the correctional system. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Requirements

  • Must be currently employed with the Florida Department of Corrections.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must possess at least one (1) year of practical application of sentence structure, Florida Sentencing Statues, Case Law Decisions and Release Date Calculations.
  • Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with department leadership to develop and implement procedures for the Specialized Case Processing and Legal Support Unit, ensuring compliance with court-ordered changes, sentencing laws, and case law decisions.
  • Independently review, audit, and restructure complex cases to ensure adherence to court orders, resolve inconsistencies in sentencing provisions, and maintain the accuracy of release date calculations in compliance with Florida statutes and case law.
  • Process court orders, calculate tentative release dates, and manage immediate releases for inmates with no time left to serve, ensuring all actions align with legal mandates and departmental obligations.
  • Conduct extensive research on case law and sentencing structures, and respond to inquiries from staff, inmates, families, and criminal justice officials, providing accurate and detailed information on sentence calculations and legal compliance.
  • Participate in special projects related to legislative changes and court cases, assist in testing and updating programs, and conduct random audits to ensure compliance with statutes, case law, and departmental rules governing sentence computations.
