About The Position

Johnson County Department of Corrections is looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of Correctional Advisor at the Adult Residential Center (ARC) in New Century, Kansas. The ARC is a minimum security correctional facility serving adult offenders on an open campus, striving to cultivate an environment of responsibility and accountability through evidence-based behavior change practices. Correctional Advisors are direct care staff who interact with clients from diverse backgrounds with criminal records, including high-risk offenders needing substance abuse treatment, mental health services, employment/technical skills, education, and basic life skills. The goal is to establish a stable foundation for re-entry into the community. The ARC has three components: Residential (for clients on probation), Work Release (for inmates transitioning back into the community), and Therapeutic Community (for intensive substance abuse treatment). The open campus environment allows clients to work in the community while residing at the ARC. Correctional Advisors do not carry weapons and only engage physically for self-defense or defense of others. The ARC operates 24 hours a day, requiring shift work and overtime. Advisors have the opportunity and responsibility to help shape behaviors and create lasting change in clients.
