About The Position

The Public Safety & Emergency Services is responsible for all provincial correctional and remand centers, young offender programs and community corrections across the province. This role involves working with youth and requires exceptional communication and decision-making skills. It is a great opportunity for those interested in youth program delivery and coordination, with knowledge of placements and classification processes. As a Correctional Service Worker, you will be responsible for case management, and may interview, classify, and place young persons in safe and appropriate housing. You will also be required to resolve day-to-day issues, respond to questions/complaints, provide guidance, and distribute resources. Resourcefulness and creativity in problem-solving are essential. Duties may include coordination and facilitation of Centre programs, keeping accurate records, classification, and placement of youth, and liaising with both internal and external service providers, as well as managing daily living unit routines. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently are necessary. A superior ability to assess and interview young persons, an in-depth understanding of different cultures and programs on each unit, and excellent decision-making abilities are necessary for managing youth with a variety of safety and security issues. Computer proficiency and knowledge of Centre policies and procedures are required.
