About The Position

Reporting to the Correctional Associate Warden for Programs, this position will ensure the effective verbal and written communication with other staff, offenders, and the general public. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating various documents and behavioral data gathered from interviews, written documentation, and personal observations. - Effectively training, observing, evaluating, and supervising subordinate staff in their duties and responsibilities. - Developing, implementing, and managing correctional programs. - Demonstrating and instructing offenders in the proper and safe use of tools, equipment, and supplies. - Accurately operating various office machines and preparing written reports and forms which accurately reflect information reviewed from various sources. - Performing crisis interventions and routine counseling to include suicide prevention. - Working in all sections of a Close/Medium/Minimum Custody prison facility, under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent and verbally abusive, and being capable of defending oneself against attacks by violent persons. - Accounting for supplies and equipment and conducting continuous visual and audio surveillance of assigned work area. - Monitoring off site programs, which may require operation of a motor vehicle in a safe and secure manner at any time of day and in varying weather and road conditions.

Requirements

  • MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in corrections or related work Or An equivalent combination of education and experience.
