About The Position

Reporting to the Associate Warden of Programs at a minimum custody correctional facility, this position serves as a Classification and Re-Entry Manager and will direct programming for the re-entry of offenders. The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services or Criminal Justice field from an appropriately accredited institution AND two years of experience in correctional programs management or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Documented experience with report writing.
  • Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Administering programs with a broad scope and complexity at a minimum custody correctional facility.
  • Directing major programs as the direct contact for transitional re-entry services, both in-house and within the community.
  • Assisting with ensuring that Community-Based Programs are ran efficiently according to NCDAC policy. Additional program areas are Offender Classification and Correctional Programs (Incentive Wage, Adult Basic Education, Volunteer Programs, Religion, Recreation Residential Substance Abuse and Supportive Counseling).
  • Meeting with local constituents and the Division of Community Supervision (DCS) staff and maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Supervising 3 Program Supervisors and subordinate staff who are responsible for the implementation, development and the maintenance of the programs on a daily basis.
  • Conducting in-house audits on all Programs Supervisors and their staff’s caseloads to ensure compliance with Programs Standards and Case Management Policy.
  • Coordinating programs and custody staff.
  • Serving in a custody role during emergency situations, such as disturbances and escapes.
