About The Position

This position is located at Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor, NC and houses approximately 1,500 medium and close custody male offenders. Positions in this class direct programs for the rehabilitation of offenders in the institution system. Positions provide direction to the programs staff in methods and techniques to be followed in carrying out programs. The primary programs areas are offender classification, offender discipline, correctional programs, including incentive wage, educational/vocational, volunteer programs, religion, cognitive based interventions, and recreation; and correctional counseling. Work involves supervision of subordinate personnel who are responsible for the implementation, development, and maintenance of the programs on a daily basis. Positions are responsible for coordinating programs with custody and other facility staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in correctional programs management or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities
