About The Position
This position is located at Roanoke River Correctional in Halifax County, NC. This position will serve as Officer-in-Charge in the absence of the Correctional Captain and responsibilities may include management of multiple locations usually a minimum custody facility which is managed within the scope of the larger facility. These facilities house and provide services for 1,000 inmates or more. This position provides supervision of subordinate staff and is responsible for conducting shift line-ups, making shift assignments, and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. Conducts inspections of housing units and other buildings, grounds, and posts to ascertain that officers are alert, that discipline is being maintained, and that assignments are carried out properly. This position will complete, review, and maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms. This position will account for persons and funds and ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready and identify training needs and coordinate delivery of training for subordinate staff. This position will conduct internal investigations, develop operational plans, post orders, and Standard Operating Procedures.
Requirements
- Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
- Pass a criminal background check
- Produce a negative drug screening result
- Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, or as a Correctional Officer, or one year as a Correctional Food Service Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Responsibilities
