About The Position

This position is responsible for conducting investigations for the Muscogee County Prison, as directed by the Warden. The role involves responding to and processing crime scenes, preparing investigative reports, and conducting both internal and external criminal investigations. Specific duties include investigating incidents such as assaults, contraband discovery, and violations of oath. The Investigator will coordinate with law enforcement, oversee contraband investigations, review evidence like videos and phone calls, present findings to the Warden, attend training, and testify in court. They will also inventory evidence, conduct P.R.E.A. investigations, manage the assessment and classification of the prison gang population, and act as a liaison between facility investigations, security, and other city departments. The role requires reviewing reports from officers, gathering and validating information on security threat groups and gang members, and interviewing staff and inmates.

Requirements

Knowledge of federal, state, and local criminal laws.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing arrests, search and seizure, affidavits and warrants, and all aspects of law enforcement.
Knowledge of court procedures and civil processes.
Knowledge of the tools and techniques used in criminal investigations.
Knowledge of criminal arrest warrant procedures.
Knowledge of GCIC and NCIC rules and regulations.
Skill in interviewing witnesses and interrogating suspects.
Skill in the operation of a Computer Voice Stress Analyzer.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
Skill in planning, organizing, problem-solving, and decision-making.
Skill in the use of office equipment.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ten (10) years’ experience in correctional, jail and/or detention settings, which may be substituted by experience in a Criminal Justice-related field.
Must have/or be able to complete an approved investigative training program resulting in a certificate of satisfactory completion.
Must hold or have the ability to obtain POST certification.
Working knowledge of all applicable court orders.
Working knowledge of CCG and DOC policies and procedures and applicable state and federal laws.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to give instructions and have them carried out.
Ability to write communications, documents, policies, courtroom defenses, and other required written correspondence.
Ability to maintain a high tolerance for mental stress.
Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions.
Ability to oversee coordinated shakedowns, detail location searches, city vehicle searches, and work outdoors in varied climatic conditions when needed.

Responsibilities

Conducting investigations for the Muscogee County Prison as directed by the Warden.
Responding to and processing crime scenes.
Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual Investigative Reports.
Conducting internal and external criminal investigations.
Investigating a variety of incidents, including assaults, contraband discovery, possession of contraband, and violation of oath.
Coordinating with state and local law enforcement agencies concerning inappropriate acts or activities by staff, officers, contract personnel, and civilians on prison grounds or involving an offender.
Overseeing contraband investigations, investigating intelligence, and reviewing videos, phone calls, and video visits.
Presenting evidence to the Warden via reports.
Attending training as scheduled and testifying in court if summoned.
Inventorying and cataloging evidence for storage or disposal.
Conducting P.R.E.A. (Prison Rape Elimination Act) investigations and reporting findings.
Managing the assessment and classification of the prison gang population.
Determining appropriate information, interviewing, researching, and performing other duties to understand intelligence and information for investigative reports.
Writing reports that explain findings from gathered intelligence and information.
Recommending appropriate action to the Warden if necessary.
Acting as liaison between facility investigations, security, and other city departments.
Reviewing reports written by officers involved in designated incidents.
Gathering information related to security threat groups and validating gang members according to DOC guidelines.
Interviewing facility staff, city staff, detail officers/inmates as needed.
Performing other duties as assigned by the Warden.
