About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is a large state agency with over 14,000 employees responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff, as well as probation/parole officers. The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina, categorized by custody levels. Brown Creek Correctional Institution is a minimum custody facility located in Polkton, NC, housing up to 916 male offenders. This role reports to the Food Service Manager and is responsible for supervising Correctional Food Service Officers and overseeing offenders performing large-scale food production at minimum custody prison facilities.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Produce a negative drug screening result.
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operation.
  • OR One year as a Correctional Food Service Officer.
  • OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented knowledge of large-scale food production and food service activities.
  • Documented supervision of employees and/or offender workers.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising the preparation and service of regular and therapeutic diets for the offender population.
  • Planning, directing, and supervising the daily preparation and serving of food to offenders.
  • Preparing, serving, and storing food, menu planning using substitutions, maintaining sanitation requirements, and related record keeping.
  • Using a computerized food and nutrition system to prepare and serve daily meals.
