About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! This position is located at Orange Correctional Center in Hillsborough, NC. Orange County. Orange Correctional Center is a male minimum custody facility. Reporting to the Associate Warden of Operations, The Correctional Food Service Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily food service operations within a correctional facility, including the supervision of Correctional Food Service Officers and incarcerated individuals assigned to food production. This role ensures the safe, secure, and sanitary preparation and delivery of meals while maintaining compliance with institutional policies and nutritional standards. This position plays a critical role in maintaining safe, efficient, and compliant food service operations within a correctional setting while supporting institutional security and rehabilitative efforts. Orange Correctional Center in Hillsborough NC is a minimum-security prison for adult males. The prison originally housed medium custody offenders and was converted to a minimum-security unit in 1966. Piedmont Community College works with the prison to provide vocational classes in food service technology and light construction.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, or as a Correctional Officer, or one year as a Correctional Food Service Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct Correctional Food Service Officers and incarcerated workers during assigned shifts.
  • Oversee large-scale food production, including preparation and service of regular and therapeutic diets.
  • Plan menus, including substitutions, and ensure adherence to nutritional and budgetary guidelines.
  • Maintain proper food storage, inventory rotation, and sanitation standards in accordance with regulations.
  • Utilize computerized food and nutrition systems for meal planning, production, and recordkeeping.
  • Monitor and patrol food service areas to ensure safety, security, and compliance with procedures.
  • Conduct offender counts and maintain control of keys, locking devices, and equipment.
  • Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate operational documentation.
  • Create requisitions for food and supplies within allocated budgets.
  • Train, instruct, and evaluate subordinate staff, coordinate staff development, and training programs.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures for food service operations.
  • Respond to emergencies and make critical decisions related to food service and facility operations.
