Warner Creek Correctional Facility– Lakeview, OR Oregon Department of Corrections About the Job – Your Role If you are ready to advance in your correctional Career, Warner Creek Correctional Facility seeks motivated, dependable, and ethical individuals to join our team as Correctional Corporal. This role is essential to maintaining the safety, security, and orderly operation of the facility while supporting the Oregon Department of Corrections mission, values, and commitment to rehabilitation. As a Correctional Corporal you will be a frontline leadership position at Warner Creek Correctional Facility responsible for supporting daily operational effectiveness, staff direction, and the safe supervision of adults in custody (AICs). As a Corporal you will be placed into critical roles to maintaining order, ensuring policy compliance, and reinforcing ODOC’s mission, values, and commitment to rehabilitation. Correctional Corporals provide guidance and oversight to Correctional Officers, assist with shift coordination, and serve as a key point of contact for addressing security concerns and behavioral issues. They help oversee housing units, program areas, and movement throughout the facility while ensuring the consistent application of ODOC rules, procedures, and post orders. In this role, as a Corporal you will be expected to demonstrate sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to make operational decisions in fast-paced or high-stress situations. You will work closely with supervisors and staff to support a safe, secure, and respectful environment for both AICs and employees. The position requires professionalism, accountability, and a commitment to cultural competency and inclusivity. As essential leaders within the facility, Correctional Corporals actively contribute to a positive workplace culture, mentor developing staff, and uphold the high standards of safety, integrity, and service fundamental to the Oregon Department of Corrections. This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.
Requirements
- One year of experience in a correctional security setting where your primary duties were the care and custody of inmates.
- Ability to obtain, within two weeks, an Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Correctional Certificate OR a Correctional Certificate from another government agency.
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED certificate.
- Be 21 years of age or older.
- Be a United States Citizen.
- Ability to obtain a valid Oregon motor vehicle operator's license.
- Pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
- Complete an I-9 and confirm authorization to work in the United States within three days of hire.

- Ensuring the consistent application of ODOC rules, procedures, and post orders.
- Demonstrating sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to make operational decisions in fast-paced or high-stress situations.
- Working closely with supervisors and staff to support a safe, secure, and respectful environment for both AICs and employees.
- Actively contributing to a positive workplace culture.
- Mentoring developing staff.
- Upholding the high standards of safety, integrity, and service fundamental to the Oregon Department of Corrections.
- Preventing escapes from confinement by proper control of keys, tools, and contraband.
- Documenting unusual incidents as they occur.
- Handling AIC incidents in the immediate area.
- Being assigned to any area of the institution in the event of an emergency.
