About The Position

This position is available for current regular status employees of the Oregon Department of Corrections, Oregon Corrections Enterprises, or Oregon Board of Parole, Probation, and Post-Prison Supervision. This recruitment will be used to fill multiple positions at different locations. As a (WOC) Correctional Lieutenant, you will fill a role as a senior security staff member responsible for overseeing custody, control, supervision, and daily care of adults in custody while upholding the mission of the Department. Lieutenants supervise an entire shift of Security staff, assigning staff as institution-needs dictate, providing direction and instruction, makes operational decisions impacting the facility and maintains security at all times by ensuring staff follow and enforce established Department of Corrections Rules and Procedures, Institutional Procedures, Post Orders, and Administrative Directives. In this role, you will develop and learn the key responsibilities involved in the institution’s leadership team roll and will expected to uphold the DOC Leadership Philosophy: Leaders are visionaries who see possibilities, connections, and solutions. Requirements

  • Must be a current regular status employee of the Oregon Department of Corrections, Oregon Corrections Enterprises, or Oregon Board of Parole, Probation, and Post-Prison Supervision.
  • Must have completed probationary period in the candidate’s current role.
  • The candidate is not on any active disciplinary actions or corrective measures.
  • The candidate is current on all required training courses and certifications.
  • Three years of experience in a correctional security setting where primary duties were the care and custody of inmates.
  • One year of which must have been at the level of a Sergeant in a correctional system.
  • Have or be able to obtain, within two weeks, an Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Correctional Certificate OR a Correctional Certificate from another government agency.
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED certificate.
  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • United States Citizen.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Oregon motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Regular attendance is a requirement of this position.
  • Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
  • Must complete an I-9 and confirm authorization to work in the United States within three days of hire.
