About The Position

This position is assigned to Maury Correctional Institution and will be located in a housing unit within the custody area. The role requires effective verbal and written communication with staff, offenders, and the general public. The individual must be capable of defending themselves against attack by violent persons.

Requirements

Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
Must meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
Pass a criminal background check.
Produce a negative drug screening result.
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
Possess a valid driver’s license.
Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities

Conduct continuous visual/audio surveillance of assigned work area.
Accurately operate office machines and prepare written reports/forms which accurately reflect information reviewed from various sources.
Demonstrate and instruct offenders in the proper safe use of tools, equipment, and supplies.
Review, analyze, and evaluate various documents and behavioral data gathered from interviews, documentation, and personal observation.
Perform crisis intervention and routine counseling, including suicide prevention.
Account for supplies and equipment.
Implement and manage correctional programs.
