About The Position

The Correctional Captain III position is located at Maury Correctional Institution in Hookerton, which houses approximately 1504. This role involves disseminating and interpreting rules, regulations, and orders from prison management. The Captain will conduct frequent inspections of housing units, buildings, grounds, and posts to ensure officers are alert, discipline is maintained, and assignments are carried out effectively. This position supervises Correctional Lieutenant III’s. The role also implements disciplinary measures for inmates and employees, investigates inmate complaints, and prepares reports for higher-level officials. A key responsibility is to prevent or resolve disorders such as assaults, riots, fires, and escapes. The Captain will prepare reports on inmates concerning their behavior, attitudes, and work records for the inmate classification committee and organize and conduct training programs for employees. Employees may serve as the Officer-in-Charge. Candidates must meet the requirements for criminal justice certification, including U.S. Citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares reports on inmates pertaining to their behavior, attitudes, and work records for use on the inmate classification committee.
  • Organizes and conducts training programs for employees.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Employees may serve as the Officer-in-Charge.
