As an Underwriting Intern, you’ll have a chance to build your business acumen by supporting the corporate underwriting department’s growth and profitability goals, making meaningful contributions to the business. The Corporate Underwriting department at Selective consists of three Strategic Business Segments (SBU’s) – Community & Public Services, Contractors, Mercantile & Manufacturing in addition to Lines of Business (LOB’s) – General Liability, Property, Automobile, Workers Compensation, Inland Marine, and BOP. They partner with and support our regions so they can continue to grow and write profitable business. This is done through developing new and enhancing existing products, creating marketing and underwriting strategies, and assisting with underwriting of policies as subject matter experts. Please note, this is a hybrid position, therefore, applicants must be within commuting distance of Branchville, NJ or Short Hills, NJ.

Requirements

Must be a current college student to qualify.
Demonstrate an interest in learning about the insurance industry.
Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
Experience with Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Internet Explorer.

Responsibilities

Participate in engaging projects and assignments that support our SBU’s with focus on specific industry groups.
Research, analyze and recommend a course of action for those projects which may involve the possible expansion of our customer base and/or cutting-edge product offerings to meet today’s challenges.
Use analytical, marketing, and presentation skills to provide detailed analysis, research, and evaluation of available underwriting information and product offerings for projects that support both the SBU’s and our regional field offices.
