About The Position

This position is a dedicated strategy role responsible for the analytical and program engine behind enterprise strategy. This includes the annual and long-range strategic planning process, the enterprise OKR framework, initiative tracking and benefits realization, competitive and market intelligence, and merger, acquisition, and partnership evaluation. The role serves as an internal strategy consultant to the executive management team, scoping ambiguous business questions, building the necessary fact base and financial analysis, and converting that analysis into actionable recommendations for executives and the Board. The position requires working 3 days per week at the op center in El Segundo, CA.

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in corporate strategy, management consulting, corporate development, investment banking, or a comparable analytical and advisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience owning strategic analysis end to end with limited oversight.
  • Employee must adhere to all compliance regulations in the strictest manner.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or CFA preferred.
  • At least 2 years in a top-tier or regional management consulting firm, or in a dedicated corporate strategy function, strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, or corporate development transactions preferred.
  • Financial services, banking or credit union industry experience preferred; strong candidates from outside the industry with demonstrated learning velocity will be considered.
  • Experience with strategic planning processes and goal-setting frameworks such as OKRs preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Power BI, SQL, and peer and market data platforms (Callahan, S&P Capital IQ, NCUA call report data or equivalent) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Owns the mechanics of the annual and long-range strategic planning process end to end, including the planning calendar, pre-work, executive and Board sessions, and the resulting written plan.
  • Builds the analytical pre-work for the planning conversation, including macroeconomic and industry outlook, PESTLE trend assessment, peer benchmarking, and financial trajectory scenarios.
  • Translates strategic direction into a costed, sequenced multi-year roadmap and reconciles it with the financial plan.
  • Maintains the strategic plan as a living document between planning cycles, refreshing assumptions and surfacing divergences between the plan and reality.
  • Administers the enterprise OKR framework, including intake, validation, maintenance, and enforcement of check-in cadence.
  • Produces monthly executive packs and quarterly Board roll-ups.
  • Maintains the enterprise initiative portfolio, tracking scope, sponsor, dependencies, milestones, resource commitments, and status, escalating issues as needed.
  • Conducts post-implementation benefits realization analysis, comparing actual results against business case commitments.
  • Maintains a competitive intelligence capability covering various financial institutions and fintech entrants.
  • Builds and refreshes peer benchmarking analysis using industry data sources.
  • Monitors regulatory, technological, demographic, and competitive developments and advises leadership on strategic consequences.
  • Supports the development and execution of the Credit Union’s merger and acquisition strategy.
  • Performs target screening and preliminary evaluation for mergers and acquisitions.
  • Builds and maintains merger and acquisition financial models.
  • Coordinates due diligence workstreams and tracks findings to resolution.
  • Evaluates CUSO investments, fintech partnerships, and other inorganic growth opportunities.
  • Leads or serves as the analytical lead on cross-organizational initiatives.
  • Develops business cases, financial models, and decision papers for major investments and strategic decisions.
  • Prepares material for the Board of Directors, executive management team, and management committees, and presents that material directly.
  • Acts as a neutral, credible party across divisions to pressure-test business unit numbers and assumptions.
  • Establishes the operating standards of the strategy function, including analytical templates, documentation, and reporting cadence.
