About The Position

As the Corporate Safety Manager, you will report to the Vice President of Environmental, Health, Safety and Security. You will provide expert leadership to ensure that the company operates in a safe manner. You work in a collaborative manner with biorefinery plant staff and other corporate personnel to drive continuous improvement in safety performance. As the Corporate Safety Manager, you will ensure appropriate execution and compliance with regulatory and corporate standards, plant training, and corrective action implementation at the plant locations.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Safety or related fields
10+ years’ experience in EHSS department or related field, including 5+ years in a senior leadership position leading Safety program(s)
Ethanol experience a plus, strong safety background required.
Proven skills and experience in all aspects of project and change management
Ability to directly impact the well-being of our employees, the perception of our customers and communities in which we operate
In-depth knowledge of Safety regulations and management methods
Ability to communicate with a wide variety of people and influence action
Experience working closely with internal management groups globally and ability to provide direction and support as well as monitoring for results
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis and be able to maintain ongoing work authorization without employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

Build a plant culture of no harm to our employees and the environment
Educate management, EHSS team and functional business owners on the importance of risk prevention to garner support for and drive key EHSS initiatives
Implement and improve existing compliance management systems, policies and procedures that align with current business needs and adhere to federal, state and local regulations: DHS, DOT, , FRA, IUB, OSHA, PHSMA, PSM as well as state guidelines
Provide expert advice and guidance to EHSS team and operational personnel on changes in local, state and federal regulations
Monitor the training and development of employees to increase proficiency and compliance with established company safety and environmental processes and regulatory requirements
Drive timely closure of preventative and corrective actions for incidents, injuries and SIFs
Manage and conduct the EHSS review and risk assessments of our facilities and equipment to develop mitigation plans and practices; recommend courses of action for identified high risk operations; and implement guidelines for rotation/replacement of key facility and equipment components
Enhance and maintain emergency response support; planning, training, and acting as incident leader in times of crisis and environmental emergencies as needed.
Coordinate annual safety plan/procedure reviews at all locations and validate updates as necessary if conditions or facilities change
Coach and guide risk control and reduction mentality; bringing prevention strategy to other key areas of risk inside the organization
Coach and guide local EHSS and site personnel during interactions with OSHA and provide guidance in developing written correspondence
Partner with legal department on regulatory matters
Ensure appropriate utilization of MOC program as major capital projects are implemented at biorefineries to affect a safe and effective commissioning process
Serve as subject matter expert and point of contact for coordinating the organization’s journey towards full VPP accreditation
