About The Position

The Corporate Director of Safety & Security organizes and administers programs, policies, and procedures related to Centra's security functions, including physical security and safety of employees, facilities, and assets. This position supervises Security Department staff at Lynchburg General Hospital, Virginia Baptist Hospital, Southside Community Hospital, Bedford Memorial Hospital, and the Gretna Medical Center and Emergency Department. The Corporate Director of Security is responsible for employee, patient, and visitor safety and security and asset protection. The Corporate Director of security's scope of responsibility includes all Centra owned, operated and leased facilities throughout the Centra System.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Five (5) years in Healthcare/Public Administration/Government/Defense or Criminal Investigator.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in security and/or emergency management related duties. Examples could be involvement with healthcare security and/or emergency management activities, or committees, outside EMS agencies and/or public or military law enforcement agencies, military intelligence, investigations, etc.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience.
  • Current Virginia State driver's license.
  • Satisfactory completion of forty- (40) hour basic security training course established by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within six (6) months of employment.
  • Successful completion of a Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training program Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Oversees Infant Abduction system and testing.
  • Oversees security Management and Clery Act reporting for the Centra College
  • Corporate oversight of badge management and distribution controls.
  • Maintains all documentation for Security functions.
  • Serves as the chairperson for the Workplace Violence Prevention Steering Committee
  • Maintains all security policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of appropriate confidentiality rules and regulations and acts accordingly.
  • Serves as a member of the Environment of Care/Safety Committee
  • Implements process improvement programs on an annual basis after attending national conferences.
  • Resolves problems, issues, and/or complaints, and communicates with all customers - external and internal.
  • Assists in maintaining all security Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system records.
  • Maintains all departmental financial/budget preparation and justification of variances.
  • Partners with Emergency Management for code-related drills.
  • Responsible for all security systems including Closed Circuit Television and card access.
  • Makes frequent rounding at all Centra locations.
  • Oversees all security investigations.
  • Monitors security policies, programs or procedures to ensure compliance with internal security policies, licensing requirements, or applicable government security requirements, policies, and directives.
  • Conducts, supports, or assists in governmental reviews, internal corporate evaluations, or assessments of the overall effectiveness of the facilities security management plan.
  • Conducts physical examinations of property to ensure compliance with security policies and regulations.
  • Communicates security status, updates, and actual or potential problems, using established protocols to Centra Executives
