About The Position

The Video Cage Coordinator works strategically within the equipment cage to implement the academic planning goals of the JHU and MICA film programs. The Video Cage Coordinator oversees part-time staff, student employees, and work-study. They assign tasks both within the cage and throughout the Centre as requested by academic program directors. The position reports to TSS, works closely with the JHU and MICA Film Centre Co-Directors, and also works extensively with various other departments and offices at MICA and JHU.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Strong supervisory, management, and administrative skills
  • Direct experience in advanced video, film, and sound production.
  • Proficiency in audio field recording
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, AVID Media Composer, AVID Pro Tools,
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Self-directed, well-organized, with excellent communication and social skills.
  • Ability to set priorities, delegate, motivate, and communicate objectives
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff; ability to interact with a wide variety of constituencies in and out of the Film Centre
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and respond effectively in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the equipment cage.
  • Create a positive and supportive environment.
  • Work with the JHU and MICA Film Centre Co-Directors to implement and manage programmatic goals and objectives at the Film Centre with an emphasis on programmatic collaboration.
  • Develop a policy for cage equipment access.
  • Coordinate student integration and assess levels for the online reservation system.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert as well as research and consultative support on film equipment and processes for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and train employees and student workers.
  • Develop and deliver instructional workshops on equipment as needed.
  • Develop, maintain, and support a process for technological planning and management within the Cage that supports the academic program missions, fosters academic partnerships, and maximizes available resources.
  • Develop and communicate policy and procedures that support academic program goals and that align with the Centre's operational goals.
  • Develop and implement staff training on film skills, best practices, safety, and support to maximize the level of service to faculty and students in the academic programs.
  • Maintain inventories and track repairs of cage equipment; advise Production and Post Production Manager, Centre leadership, and program directors about equipment status and access issues.
  • Ensure that all members of the Film Centre community (students, faculty, staff, and guests) utilizing cage equipment are trained on safety and other policies and procedures specific to the equipment.
  • Work with JHU and MICA Film Centre Co-Directors to develop and manage long-term capital project plans.
  • Develop and maintain online documentation for equipment as well as the Film Centre website regarding access, policy, and procedures.
  • Supervise support staff for both cage checkout and tier one support of production and post-production facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
