About The Position

This is a Temporary position (9 months or less). The Work Unit is responsible for monitoring, investigating, and controlling epidemic and communicable diseases affecting the public health in Colorado. This includes invasive bacterial diseases; foodborne/enteric diseases; waterborne diseases; respiratory diseases; vaccine preventable diseases; healthcare-associated infections; tuberculosis; and zoonotic/vectorborne diseases. The Epidemiology Planning and Response Program (EPRP) supports CDPHE communicable disease programs, other CDPHE programs, and local public health agencies (LPHAs) with routine and response-related communicable disease surveillance and investigation. The Program implements epidemiological aspects of public health emergency preparedness activities, and develops and updates epidemiological response plans. The Program disseminates Health Alert Network messages to public health partners statewide. The Program supports communicable disease-related training initiatives for internal staff and external partners. A newly added function of the program is oversight of the Wastewater Surveillance Unit, which conducts routine and response-related surveillance for a variety of communicable disease pathogens in wastewater collected at select utilities statewide. Much of this program’s work is performed in the field, supporting LPHAs and conducting frontline disease investigation, response, and control activities.

Requirements

Five (5) years of relevant experience in public health or health-related organization or planning capacity with public health or an occupation related to the work assigned to this position.
A combination of related education in public health, health administration, health communication and/or relevant experience in public health or health-related organization or planning capacity with public health or an occupation related to the work assigned equal to five (5) years.
Must substantiate that you meet the minimum qualifications when filling out the Work Experience section of the application.
Part-time work will be prorated when determining whether minimum qualifications are met.

Responsibilities

Coordinates Ebola traveler monitoring activities between CDB and LPHAs, including fielding questions and concerns, escalating needs, managing information exchange and communication mechanisms, and monitoring LPHA capacity for traveler monitoring work.
Keeps up to date on public health guidance changes and updates traveler monitoring guidance and LPHA resources needed.
Accesses 1CDP to download traveler information.
Runs existing code to duplicate with previous lists.
Enters new travelers into EpiTrax.
Determines residence and assign records to LPHAs as appropriate.
Distributes notification emails to LPHA using an established template.
Call travelers to collect information about exposures and symptoms.
Uses additional data management platforms, such as REDCap, as assigned.
Runs and shares data cleaning reports.
Manages CDC data uploads (weekly and end of monitoring).
