About The Position

Coordinate activities for Student Services and Admissions, including managing student advising for BSW and MSW students, as well as outreach and recruitment programs.

Requirements

Advanced knowledge of Social Work programs obtained through the completion of a Master's Degree in Social Work is required (LLMSW is desirable).
Two years post MSW experience in social work practice or advising students of BSW and MSW programs is required.
Demonstrated capability in effectively coordinating social work programs is required.
Familiarity with NASW Code of Ethics and ability to apply concepts (including confidentiality) in professional settings is required.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail is required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities, as well as challenging situations, with equilibrium is required.
Familiarity with computers including the usage of email and word processing is required.
Ability to quickly learn and utilize spreadsheets and databases is required.
Well-developed oral and written skills are required.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with EMU policies and student services is desirable.
A working knowledge of local social service agencies is desirable.

Responsibilities

Coordinate all aspects of advising for both the BSW and MSW major students.
Assure all students have a Plan of Study.
Provide academic and career advising, consult with CHHS and other advisors as necessary, assist students in navigating the academic system and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
Respond to advising, career and licensing related questions from all BSW and MSW majors throughout their Social Work academic careers, conducting appointments, responding to emails, and conducting appointments by telephone.
Assist students with preparation for field internship, graduation, employment and graduate study.
Coordinate outreach to social work majors who procrastinate in registration or drop out or stop out of their academic program.
Oversee registration for both the BSW and MSW programs.
Team with the BSW Program Director and faculty to coordinate and manage BSW admissions into the School of Social Work.
Team with the BSW Program Director to monitor grades and manage School of Social Work academic review, probation and dismissals procedures.
Team with the MSW Program Director and faculty to coordinate and manage MSW orientation into the School of Social Work.
Manage student files/record/plans of study, to assure the utility and security of students' academic records in Social Work.
Manage the implementation and update of the School's community college articulation agreements.
Manage the School's response to student requests for required licensure information.
Consult with the Director, Program Directors and faculty on responses to distressed students or student concerns.
Utilize departmental and university information systems to monitor and track relevant departmental and/or university data, collect and generate statistics and prepare reports as necessary.
Develop and implement programs and events for students and alumni.
Manage outreach activities, including, but not limited to making presentations at community colleges and in EMU classes, building relationships with advisers in other academic departments, representing the School in recruitment events at EMU and agencies, developing and/or updating recruitment and marketing materials and making presentations in the community.
Train, supervise and evaluate student workers and graduate employees in relationship to advising issues and questions.
Participate on assigned committees and advisory boards at EMU and community colleges as requested Identify and maintain communication with contact departments.
Attend and participate in School of Social Work meetings as appropriate.
Perform other related duties, as required.
