About The Position

Alabama State University, The Division of Student Affairs and the office of student life, invites applications to fill the position of Coordinator of Student Life. Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Student Life, the successful applicant will implement short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies and operating procedures for programming related to the areas of student involvement, inclusion and community engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel Services, Counseling, Non-Profit Management, Education, or a related field is required
  • 1–3 years of experience in student affairs, student activities, leadership development, Greek life, community service/service-learning, or related areas in a higher education or organizational setting.
  • Demonstrated involvement in student leadership, event coordination, or organizational support through professional, volunteer, or academic experiences.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and communication skills are essential
  • Experience coordinating programs, events, or office operations in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners to support engagement, leadership development, and campus-wide initiatives is required.
  • Federal law requires identity and employment eligibility verification on Form I-9 within three (3) business days of employment.
  • All positions require the passing of a background check and some the passing of a drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall development of 70+ student organizations and the implementation of a full-range of student involvement activities, including service-learning, community service, leadership development and Greek Affairs.
  • Serve as the primary advisor to the University Programming and Activities Board (UPAAB)
  • Coordinate and Direct Annual Hive Awards
  • Offer advice and assistant to all current (and pending) student organizations, with emphases on mentoring organizational leadership, attending organizational meetings and events, assessing organizational risk(s) and ensuring compliance (i.e., fiscal, room reservations) with university policies and procedures.
  • Develop procedural manuals for student organizational leaders, and on- and off-campus advisors, as well as provide semester training opportunities for both entities.
  • Thorough understanding of Greek Life, with a particular emphasis on the National Pan-Hellenic Council and emerging Greek Councils, manage relationships with the national, regional and local alumni leadership and chapters.
  • Serve as the point of contact for all Greek Life chapters' recruitment, membership intake, scholarship and community service efforts.
  • Collaborate with campus and community partners to foster a thriving volunteer program with specific attention on local agency and partner relationships. Likewise, plan volunteer campaigns and recognition programs.
  • Utilize and understand the importance of both quantitative and qualitative evaluation, and objectives/outcomes-based learning, to assess the relevancy and continued funding of student organizations, inclusion and community service.
  • Represent the Office of Student Life on various university, planning and policy-writing committees, and within the local, regional and national communities when requested by the University.
