The Coordinator of Pupil Appraisal assists the Director of Pupil Appraisal in planning and implementing staff development for the special education office and school personnel. The Coordinator of Pupil Appraisal collects and maintains data to ensure district, state, and federal compliance. This role involves assisting with assignments of Pupil Appraisal staff, supervising Pupil Appraisal personnel, and aiding them with eligibility criteria determinations and evaluation procedures according to Louisiana Bulletin 1508. The Coordinator will also assist school staff and parents with concerns relating to student referral and/or placement, collect and maintain data for compliance, and communicate with home, school, and community regarding special education programs. Participation in special education monitoring of records, collaboration with transportation coordinators, and review of information for compliance and interim requests are also key functions. The role oversees the site determination process for students unable to attend their district school and reviews Special Education extraordinary transfer requests. Compliance components include reviewing evaluations, attending various meetings (ABIT, IEP, MDR, eligibility) upon request and potentially outside of regular hours, sending out management reports, and collaborating with special education stakeholders to ensure compliance with federal and state laws. The supervision component includes fulfilling duties traditionally expected of supervisory positions, assisting with the supervision of Pupil Appraisal personnel, and completing/assisting with employee observations, evaluations, and Intensive Assistance Plans. The non-instructional and other components involve planning and facilitating Pupil Appraisal meetings, professional development sessions (which may occur outside of work hours), attending professional development, job fairs, serving as an evaluation team member, attending various meetings (Central Office, Department, back-to-school, open-house, PIP, Evaluation, Observation, IAP, student discipline, school board/committee), participating in disciplinary processes, and assisting in monitoring state and talent testing. The role also includes interviewing, employing, and completing necessary hires, and performing other duties as assigned.
