About The Position

The Coordinator of MTSS-B (Behavior & Social Emotional Learning) supports the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports for Behavior and SEL (MTSS-B). This role focuses on creating safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments through strong Tier 1 behavioral systems, targeted Tier 2 and 3 interventions, and integrated social-emotional supports. Working in close collaboration with academic leadership and Student Support Services, including Executive Directors, Chiefs of Schools, and school-based teams, the Coordinator ensures behavior and SEL are preventative, data-driven, culturally responsive, and aligned with district priorities. The Coordinator will develop and implement district-wide systems and protocols for MTSS along with strategically planning for MTSS implementation and providing ongoing, engaging professional development.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Ten (10) years of appropriate teaching and/or administrative experience (preferred) in school leadership, student support, or behavioral systems.
  • NYS Certification for a School District Administrator (SDL / SDA).
  • Understanding of MTSS and tiered support frameworks, including NYS Commissioner of Education Regulations regarding MTSS-I.
  • Demonstrated expertise in PBIS, SEL, restorative practices, or MTSS frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of behavioral data systems and early warning indicators.
  • Strong facilitation, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Use of data strategically to inform improvement.
  • Diplomacy and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues.
  • Superior written and oral communications.
  • Program and project planning, development and management.
  • Technology proficiency.

  • Experience working in urban or high-needs districts preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead district implementation of the MTSS-B framework.
  • Support schools in strengthening Tier 1 behavioral expectations and SEL integration.
  • Guide development of Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavioral and SEL interventions.
  • Align MTSS-B with PBIS, restorative practices, attendance, and climate initiatives.
  • Develop district guidance, tools, and protocols for behavioral supports.
  • Oversee behavioral early warning indicators (attendance, discipline, climate).
  • Support schools in analyzing behavioral and SEL data.
  • Monitor fidelity of PBIS/MTSS-B implementation.
  • Develop dashboards and reports on behavioral trends and outcomes.
  • Provide recommendations to district leadership based on data.
  • Provide coaching and technical assistance to school MTSS-B and PBIS teams.
  • Support principals in implementing positive school climate systems.
  • Facilitate problem-solving teams addressing behavioral needs.
  • Collaborate with counseling, social work, psychology, and attendance teams.
  • Support crisis prevention and proactive behavioral planning.
  • Design and deliver professional learning on MTSS-B, PBIS, SEL, and restorative practices.
  • Develop resources to support staff implementation.
  • Support cross-functional training with academic and student support teams.
  • Monitor disproportionality in discipline and behavioral outcomes.
  • Support culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices.
  • Promote inclusive environments that support belonging and engagement.
  • Participate in evaluation and refinement of MTSS-B systems.
