About The Position

The Coordinator of Elementary Mathematics Education performs complex professional and difficult administrative work that includes planning, directing and supervising curriculum development, instructional strategies and staff development in the subject area of mathematics for all grade levels. This role emphasizes positive student achievement and continuous improvement, supervising the alignment, coordination, and delivery of assigned programs and/or curricular areas. The position involves gathering and analyzing division-wide data on student mathematics achievement, assisting with personnel selection and support, and identifying program strengths and weaknesses to facilitate continuous improvement. The Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing division-wide improvement plans, articulating curricular and instructional goals, and maintaining a comprehensive mathematics curriculum aligned with state Standards of Learning. This role also involves working with staff to plan, implement, evaluate, and revise the mathematics curriculum and instructional plan, developing plans for resource allocation, and monitoring the effect of mathematics programs on student achievement. Collaboration with the Director of Research and Evaluation, budget management, and providing staff development programs are key responsibilities. The position requires adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, monitoring instructional resources, and promoting a positive and collaborative work environment. Continuous professional development is expected to enhance student learning.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of school administration.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum development and selection of appropriate instructional strategies and materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist teachers and principals to implement an effective approach to mathematics education.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop educational programs for student achievement, accountability, and assessment.
  • Ability to develop and present ideas effectively, orally and in written form.
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationships with other administrative staff, subordinates, supervisors, the School Board, and the general public.
  • Experience as a classroom teacher is a prerequisite for this position.
  • Must hold or be eligible for licensure in Virginia.

  • Knowledge gained through service as a building level administrator is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates a clear vision of excellence and continuous improvement consistent with the goals of the school division.

  • Supervises the alignment, coordination, and delivery of assigned programs and/or curricular areas.
  • Applies current research related to effective techniques for gathering data.
  • Gathers and analyzes division-wide data on student mathematics achievement.
  • Assists with the selection, induction, support, evaluation and retention of highly qualified instructional and support personnel.
  • Identifies strengths and weaknesses in programs and practices to facilitate continuous improvement in student mathematics achievement.
  • Applies and communicates statistical findings in the area of mathematics.
  • Plans and implements changes in programs and/or curricula based on data.
  • Conducts annual analysis of division-wide mathematics tests and subtest scores by grade.
  • Develops and implements a division-wide improvement plan that results in increased student achievement in mathematics.
  • Accepts responsibility for student achievement in mathematics as measured by the Virginia SOL examinations.
  • Articulates curricular and instructional goals and objectives to staff and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge and understanding of the Standards of Learning and school division curricular requirements.
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive mathematics curriculum utilizing goals and objectives in alignment with the Standards of Learning.
  • Works with staff to plan, implement, evaluate and revise the mathematics curriculum and instructional plan on a systematic and ongoing basis.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and applies current research related to best practices in curriculum and instruction.
  • Facilitates programs/curricular changes to meet state and federal requirements.
  • Develops plans for and allocates resources and materials to accomplish mathematics instructional goals for all students.
  • Monitors and assesses the effect of the mathematics programs and/or curricula on student achievement to ensure that the instructional programs are responsive to student academic needs.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Research and Evaluation to implement the division-testing program for students.
  • Meets and works collaboratively with appropriate staff to determine budget needs and priorities and monitors and assesses resource allocation.
  • Provides staff development programs consistent with student assessment and program evaluation results and school instructional improvement plans.
  • Works cooperatively with the Principal to identify, analyze and resolve problems using effective problem-solving techniques in a timely and effective manner.
  • Provides shared leadership and decision-making opportunities that promote a climate of collaboration and collegiality.
  • Follows federal, state, and local statutes, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Monitors the efficient use of instructional resources.
  • Promotes an atmosphere of mutual respect and courtesy and models professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions with co-workers, customers and clients.
  • Works in a collegial and collaborative manner with other administrators, school personnel, and the community to promote and support the mission and goals of the school division.
  • Provides service to the profession, the division, and the community.
  • Takes responsibility for and participates in a meaningful and continuous process of professional development that results in the enhancement of student learning.
