About The Position

The Coordinator of Community Standards serves as the primary conduct officer for investigating and adjudicating incidents of student misconduct. They provide support, guidance, and dotted line supervision to Residence Life Coordinators and Resident Assistants as they process student conduct cases. They are responsible for maintaining the daily crime log for all campus incidents. The Coordinator will also serve as a proxy facilitator to the Student Intervention Team, which is a collaborative team that works to address ongoing student behavioral and/or safety concerns. This involves coordinating with Campus Safety and Security, Residence Life, and Student Assistance. The Coordinator of Community Standards is responsible for staying updated on current trends and practices in the area of student conduct, VAWA, and Clery. They will create and present educational materials on those subjects to staff, faculty, and students. They will collaborate with campus partners to execute educational events that focus on minimizing high-risk behaviors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Experience that demonstrates sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disabled backgrounds of community college students.
  • Experience that illustrates a history of successfully collaborating with co-workers on a regular basis to achieve common goals.
  • Experience that demonstrates a strong desire to work with a variety of people on a regular basis.
  • Experience that demonstrates student-centered decision making.
  • Ability to openly confront and appropriately respond to students.
  • Ability to exercise superior judgement and discretion.
  • Ability to pass a background check, have a valid U.S. driver's license and good driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of two years of progressively responsible professional experience in student conduct or conflict resolution at a post-secondary institution or equivalent experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience planning and facilitating programs that focus on educational sanctions.
  • Working for or collaborating with a Residence Life Department.
  • Ability to drive company owned or personal vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary conduct officer for campus disciplinary issues.
  • Assist in the training of faculty and staff on recognizing and reporting disciplinary issues and campus crime.
  • Provide support and guidance to faculty on classroom management and working with disruptive students.
  • Conduct disciplinary student meetings on an individual and group basis using different techniques such as motivational interviewing.
  • Communicate sanctions to students and ensure they understand their options for appeal.
  • Monitor progress of students.
  • Create mentoring relationships with students through this process.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance for Residence Life staff regarding student conduct, behavioral concerns, and crisis management.
  • Conduct timely and comprehensive reviews of student conduct processes, procedures, and policies.
  • Make recommendations to the Director of Student Outreach, Support, and Intervention and Dean of Student Life and Success.
  • Develop learning outcomes, objectives, and goals for the student conduct process and evaluate said outcomes and objectives through qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Assist with federal, state, and institutional reporting requirements maintain the daily crime log.
  • Serve as a proxy facilitator for the Student Intervention Team, which focuses on assessing students of concern and creating action plans when needed.
  • Plan and execute programming and new initiatives aimed at prevention education and minimizing high-risk behaviors.
  • Serve on the Civil Rights/Title IX team as needed.
  • Develops, manages, and updates content for the website, ROC, social media, campus information monitor systems, and print materials as they relate to community standards.
  • Assist the larger Student Life team with event planning and staffing, projects, promotional materials, and student communication.
  • Other duties as assigned.
