About The Position

The Métis Community Reintegration Coordinator operates with a provincial mandate, providing virtual and in-person services. This role is responsible for the provision of case management support for Métis persons who have had involvement in the criminal justice system, creating client-led Aftercare plans, supporting clients with community reintegration, including post-incarceration reintegration support, and providing appropriate client referrals. The Coordinator is also responsible for meeting with relevant stakeholders to build partnerships for the purpose of creating referral streams to the Métis Community Reintegration Program. The position is essential to providing care and support necessary to meet the fundamental needs of the citizens of the Métis Nation as outlined in the Statement of Prime Purpose. This position reports to the Supervisor of Advocacy.

Requirements

  • College Diploma (1 or 2 year)
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in Indigenous client justice services, social work, and/or case management
  • Demonstrated experience in quickly acquiring and expanding knowledge and being flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated experience with personal and confidential information and issues in a professional, tactful and diplomatic manner
  • Advanced communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system, Métis-specific programs, community supports and services available to Métis communities throughout Ontario
  • A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment including Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe and other software
  • Demonstrated case management experience and ability to manage a case load that is high at times
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain partnerships with justice system officials, stakeholders and community members
  • Firm understanding of the Gladue principle, how it applies to Métis people and an understanding of the function of Gladue reports and Gladue letters
  • Demonstrated ability to write high quality evidence and data-based reports and professional presentations
  • Superior organization skills and time/priority management
  • Willing and able to travel throughout Ontario, and occasionally throughout Canada for the purpose of meeting Advocacy Program objectives as well as Advocacy Program and Community Wellbeing training
  • Willing and able to occasionally work hours outside of the regular Monday-Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm schedule
  • Knowledge of FIPPA and PIPEDA legislation
  • Must possess a valid G-class driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Assess clients’ needs, strengths, and risks to develop individualized reintegration Aftercare Plans
  • Provide one-on-one support to clients transitioning from incarceration or court-involvement to the community, including those who have had a Gladue report written
  • Create client-led Aftercare plans that assist clients in accessing housing, employment, education, and other necessary resources
  • Facilitate connections to mental health, addiction, and social services as needed
  • Provide case and file management, including assisting Métis clients in following through with recommendations on their Aftercare Plan
  • Support Métis clients by advocating for Gladue reports as appropriate and providing support during the Gladue report writing process
  • Respond to general enquiries about the Métis Community Reintegration Program’s purpose, processes, and procedures and/or any other information being requested
  • Collaboratively work with other members of the MNO Advocacy Program team to ensure culturally-appropriate programming
  • Conduct outreach by liaising with external agencies as necessary, attending meetings, hosting presentations, public information sessions and events
  • Work collaboratively with community partners, correctional facilities, and other justice system stakeholders to support reintegration efforts
  • Design and facilitate workshops or group sessions focussed on life skills, job readiness, or reintegration strategies
  • Deliver culturally relevant programming tailored to the needs of Métis clients
  • Track program statistics to be reported quarterly to the Program Supervisor
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on the client’s progress on Aftercare Plans in accordance with privacy standards as well as adherence to records management requirements for youth as defined in the Youth Criminal Justice Act
  • Promote the values of the organization within the workplace and in the community by demonstrating positive and professional relationships with others (employees, citizens, council, volunteers, advocates, etc.)
  • Report all unsafe conditions, hazards or practices, accidents and incidents in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and adheres to all Health and Safety requirements within the MNO’s policies and procedures and provincial legislation
  • Perform other job/branch-related duties as required
