In this role, you will be responsible for the safe, compliant, and reliable coordination of waste management and utilities activity across the Firebag site.

Requirements

  • Five years' experience in Alberta hazardous and non-hazardous waste management operations
  • Two years of experience in contract management, vendor oversight, or procurement
  • A diploma or degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Technology, Environmental Management, Waste Management, Water/Wastewater, or a related field
  • WHMIS 2015 certification
  • Strong working knowledge of Alberta environmental legislation and waste regulations, including AEPA, AER requirements, EPEA, the Waste Control Regulation, and TDG legislation
  • Ability to interpret contracts, technical waste profiles, regulatory documentation, permits, and approvals
  • Experience supporting or coordinating water treatment plants or wastewater treatment facilities in an industrial or municipal environment

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full lifecycle of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, including sludge, sanitary and construction waste, recycling, and onsite ecology pit operations.
  • Oversee contractor execution, ensuring clear scopes of work, performance monitoring, and timely resolution of operational issues.
  • Ensure operations, maintenance, inspections, sampling, and corrective actions are completed in accordance with permits, approvals, and site standards.
  • Support regulatory compliance with AEPA, AER, EPEA, Waste Control Regulation, Occupational Health and Safety, WHMIS, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) requirements.
  • Support RFP development, bid evaluations, and creation of site-specific scopes of work.
  • Support waste reduction initiatives, including recycling, reuse, and approved onsite treatment solutions.
  • Assist with environmental and utilities-related incident response, including spills, system failures, and non-compliant discharge or disposal events.
