About The Position

The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Coordinator, Health Promotions. Working as a member of the Health Promotions department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy. The Health Promotions Coordinator supports the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of lung health programs across Illinois, with a focus on supporting the Comprehensive Lung Health in Supported Housing Initiative and other assigned projects. This grant-funded position supports statewide efforts to work with public housing, health department, and health provider partners to reduce tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure, increase access to vaccinations, and improve indoor air quality to improve lung health for youth and adults living in public housing across Illinois. This position will engage housing partners, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to provide training, education, resources, and support. This position may be based at the American Lung Association’s Chicago, IL or Springfield, IL offices and is a hybrid role combining in-person and virtual work. This position is 100% grant funded.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Some experience in public health, community engagement, public policy, or related field.
  • Must be a self-starter with excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Required to travel periodically for meetings and conferences.
  • Ability to lift approximately 25 lbs.
  • Able to work with minimum direct supervision, make decisions, and take initiative.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and steward relationships across a diverse population.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s license and your own reliable transportation with the ability to travel within assigned area for meetings and conferences, as well as the flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required
  • Required to travel statewide to provide training and technical assistance and to attend meetings and conferences as required by assigned grants.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager in implementing and evaluating the Comprehensive Lung Health in Supported Housing project in Illinois focused on improving lung health and reduce the burden of lung disease for individuals living in public housing across Illinois.
  • Work in coordination with project team to create community engagement and health education materials, presentations, outreach strategies, and to advance project goals.
  • Maintain relationships with funders, partners, housing personnel, and other stakeholders to advance program delivery and sustainability.
  • Support project by conducting community outreach, providing trainings and presentations, engaging stakeholders, distributing resources and indoor air quality remediation supplies, and providing outstanding customer support.
  • Contribute to all progress reports and grant reporting as assigned and follow all project evaluation protocols to support outcomes tracking and program improvement
  • Use timelines and workplans effectively to ensure completion of project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with supervisor in growing American Lung Association programs within assigned territory,
  • Represent the American Lung Association as a member of community, civic, and/or health coalitions and organizations related to the Association’s mission.
  • Participate on regional and national American Lung Association program workgroups and committees as requested.
  • Provide support for local program and development events.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
