About The Position

The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Specialist, Health Promotions. Working as a member of the Health Promotions and Education department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy. The Specialist, Health Promotions will implement and evaluate lung health programs throughout the Colorado market as well as the Colorado Department of Health & Environment’s (CDPHE) ONE Step Grant in Colorado statewide. Supporting our ongoing commitment to Tuberculosis research, this role also serves as the primary engine for conference operations for the Four Corners Project. You will work in tandem with the planning committee to execute a seamless, high-impact event that honors our mission and advances the field. This is a grant funded position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in public health or related field preferred.
  • Two (2) tears of experience in public health or related field or equivalent.
  • Experience in coalition building and community health development public policy, and/or advocacy.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Excellent customer service skills; ability to clearly articulate the mission and vision of the ALA.
  • Strong project management skills in order to research, develop, and execute specific program deliverables.
  • Strategic in developing/maintaining relationships with medical professionals, public health community, and members of the public.
  • Computer literate; knowledge using Microsoft programs helpful.
  • Ability to lift approximately 25 lbs.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s license and your own reliable transportation with the ability to travel within assigned area 10% of the time for meetings and conferences, as well as the flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required
  • Required to travel statewide for providing technical assistance, meetings and conferences as required by assigned grants.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the project manager to develop, implement and evaluate a public health education program that will focus on lung health awareness and ONE Step education.
  • Facilitate a lung disease education conference in Colorado to serve health professionals and lung disease patients.
  • Build, maintain and cultivate relationships with funders, facilitators, and community partners to encourage program delivery, sustainability, and growth across Colorado, including American Lung Association programs including Freedom From Smoking, Better Breathers Clubs, Asthma Basics, LUNG FORCE Expo, etc. within assigned territory.
  • Work with Manager to coordinate all aspects of grant projects activities, including trainings, presentations, education health fairs, etc. and serve as lead for these activities.
  • Help to develop and effectively utilize timelines and work plans to ensure completion of program deliverables.
  • Explore opportunities to connect and enhance collaborations throughout the Lung Association
  • Contribute to quarterly progress reports and monthly reporting of grant activities.
  • Research and implement best practices for the ONE Step program within identified priority populations.
  • Collaborate with project Manager in growing American Lung Association programs within assigned territory.
  • Provide support for Denver program and development events, such as Run the Rocks, Climb, Conferences, and other related activities.
  • Actively participate in coalitions identified in the Colorado Program of Work.
  • Participate on national American Lung Association program workgroups and committees as requested.
  • Provide support for annual report, awards, grants and other activities assigned.
  • Participate in and support community related programs.
  • Identify, negotiate, and solidify event venues, manage comprehensive hospitality requirements, including procurement and oversight of hotel room blocks and vendor contracts throughout the conference season.
  • Drive conference visibility by developing the event website (in collaboration with MarCom), executing targeted e-blast campaigns to past participants, and managing social media promotion.
  • Build the online registration portal and serve as the primary point of contact for attendees, providing proactive communication and support from initial inquiry through post-event follow-up.
  • Facilitate the planning committee's success by producing vendor packets, sourcing conference premiums, coordinating speaker travel and technical requirements and designing room configurations.
  • Build and maintain the conference budget to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Lead all "day-of" operations, including check-in management, exhibitor placement, session timekeeping, and real-time problem-solving.
  • Including all other duties as assigned.
