About The Position

The Coordinator for Health, PE, and Student Activities is an instructional leader with excellent problem solving skills whose primary responsibility is to collaborate with the Curriculum Specialist for Health and PE and Division Administrator for Athletics and Student Activities. Specific tasks may include: evaluating and recommending curriculum and instructional resources to enhance student learning; monitoring the effectiveness of instructional practices and recommending improvements to assure compliance with division and state requirements; providing coaching and support to teachers; and planning and coordination of efforts with student activities/athletics directors and coaches.

Requirements

  • Requires a thorough knowledge of content, practices, and procedures of curriculum for Family Life Education, Health and Physical Education, and Driver Education instruction for grades K-12.
  • Have a knowledge of athletics in regard to VHSL and MSAC policies, rules, regulations, and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability in decision making, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, program management, and research and planning.
  • Must show proven leadership and visionary abilities and the ability to conduct training for a myriad of groups.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers, parents, students, and the general public.
  • Travel to school sites throughout the County is common and periodic state or regional travel, including overnight stays is required.
  • Attendance at meetings outside the normal duty hours is often required.
  • Postgraduate Professional Certificate.
  • Endorsement in Health and Physical Education PreK-12.
  • Minimum three years of recent successful experience as a classroom teacher, administrator, or supervisor in the endorsed subject area.
  • Valid Va. Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Provides content area expertise and support for instructional teams
  • Supports the division-wide athletic field maintenance plan, budgeting, and purchasing by coordinating with county staff and outside vendors
  • Reviews division opportunities and expands athletics and extra-curricular activities based on student interests and Virginia High School League (VHSL) criteria
  • Visits classrooms to monitor the implementation of instructional strategies and use of instructional resources
  • Serves as an Ex-Officio Member of the Hanover/Henrico Middle School Athletic Council (MSAC)
  • Provides assistance and leadership with athletic associations(VHSL/MSAC) and related concerns
  • Ensures alignment of the written, taught, and assessed curriculum
  • Provides leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating professional learning for teachers, activities/athletics directors, and coaches
  • Participates in school and division-level meetings to discuss instructional challenges in Health and PE classrooms and offers strategies to overcome them
  • Keeps abreast of current trends in instructional methods and research to share related information on the content area
  • Supports summer school opportunities and the use of content-area curriculum resource sites
  • Participates in committees related to the content area, safety, and compliance
  • Recognizes athletic achievement of state champions to the School Board
  • Collaborates with other curriculum specialists to facilitate division-wide events
  • Performs related work as assigned or required
