About The Position

The Coordinator for Residential Education, Student Care Initiatives (Student Services Professional III) plays a vital role in supporting the well-being and success of students living on campus. Reporting to the Associate Director of Residential Education, this position provides case management, crisis response, and individualized support for students experiencing personal, behavioral, mental health, or other significant life challenges. This role works collaboratively with Residential Education staff, campus partners, and community resources to assess student needs, coordinate interventions, and promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive residential experience. Through proactive outreach, consultation, and student advocacy, this role helps foster student success and strengthen the overall residential community.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution, where such are job-related.
  • Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a California driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
  • Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.

Nice To Haves

  • One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
  • A master’s degree in counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
  • A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized case management and support for students experiencing crises or significant challenges, including mental health concerns, substance misuse, physical health issues, roommate conflicts, and other complex life circumstances.
  • Assess student situations, determine appropriate interventions, coordinate referrals, and develop follow-up plans that connect students with campus and community resources.
  • Serve as a resource for consultation for Residential Education staff, offering guidance, support, and strategies to address student concerns and navigate challenging situations.
  • Collaborate with campus partners, behavioral intervention teams, and community agencies to coordinate care, monitor student progress, and support successful outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate case records, track trends and outcomes, and prepare reports and assessments that inform departmental planning and student support initiatives.
  • Lead outreach efforts and communication with students, families, and campus stakeholders while ensuring compliance with FERPA and other applicable regulations.
  • Develop and deliver training programs, resources, and best practices for student leaders and professional staff related to crisis response, referrals, student care, and community well-being.
  • Support departmental initiatives and emergency response efforts by contributing to policy development, process improvement, conflict resolution strategies, and residential community support programs.
