About The Position

The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is looking to fill an existing position for a Coordinator, Facilities Operations to provide facilities operations and project support for OICR as related to daily operation, scientific instrumentation installation and laboratory support within the MaRS Centre location. This position is temporary, full-time for one-year.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school and certificate in Facilities Management, Building Operations, Mechanical Trade, or recognized equivalent.
  • Previous similar experience in a laboratory/hospital facility.
  • Some experience in renovation/construction in a laboratory or health care environment.
  • Basic computer skills, record keeping/reporting ability.
  • Ability to communicate with service providers and end users.
  • Knowledge of research laboratory equipment.
  • Previous knowledge and familiarity with BPS guidelines.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction CAD drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with internal departments to facilitate laboratory operations for staff moves occupancy services.
  • Coordinate assignment and activation of phone and data connections with IT.
  • Coordinate moves upon project construction completion.
  • Coordinate decontamination and recertification of new and or existing scientific equipment.
  • Ensure completion of laboratory check lists prior to relocation/occupancy.
  • Coordinate review, installation and connection of new scientific equipment.
  • Maintain existing filing system within prescribed guidelines along with Service Desk request tracking system.
  • Maintain projects records, order documentation, packing slips, certification materials in good working order.
  • Facilitate all requests with OICR staff to include but not limited to facilitation of security access cards, signage, housekeeping, protection services, lab FFE, base building plant coordination, office FFE repairs and installations.
  • Maintain facility standards (electrical, mechanical, architectural finishes).
  • Arrange for any necessary repairs and replacement of office furniture.
  • Respond to emergency alarms after-hours and on weekends.
  • Assist in the department as required, provides back-up support to team.
  • Ensure the Manager, Facilities is advised of space/facilitation requests and expedite same upon approval to maintain real-time accuracy of record.
  • Maintain inventory of FF & E for redistribution throughout the Institute.
  • Meet with users to assess office/lab requirements.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings as directed.
  • Monitor and inspect all work, provides advice and direction, perform quality assurance checks to ensure that quality of workmanship meets applicable codes, laboratory standards, regulations and guidelines.
  • Ensure appropriate response to customers’ requests through the implementation and maintenance of effective communications.
  • Provide written reports as required (incidents, accidents, efficiency etc.).
  • Plan and implement compliance testing of facilities equipment: e.g., safety showers, eye washes, etc.
  • Manage, organize and maintain physical keys & access card system, deployment and records.
  • Update seating plans & signage on Acrobat PDF.
  • Restock facilities supplies in common spaces, meeting rooms and kitchens.
  • Set up/reset up boardrooms and 6th floor kitchen meeting rooms for events.
  • Administer staff access/ID photo cards.
  • Collect and dispose of stericycle (biohazard) waste.
  • Exchange liquid nitrogen & carbon dioxide tanks as scheduled from /to loading dock and laboratory.
  • Order and distribute stericycle supplies.
  • Perform safety testing (fire extinguishers, safety showers, etc.).
  • Address health and safety violation repairs.
  • Coordinate chemical waste pickup, as required.
