About The Position

The San Diego County Medical Services Office is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Coordinator, Emergency Medical Services. This professional-level class, under general direction, may be assigned to the Public Safety Group’s San Diego County Fire - Emergency Medical Services Office/Local EMS Agency (LEMSA) or the Health and Human Services Agency Public Health Preparedness and Response Branch (HHSA-PHPR). The current vacancies are in the Public Safety Group's San Diego County Fire - Emergency Medical Services office. This recruitment may also be used to fill vacancies in other County departments and programs. The San Diego County EMS Office collaborates with hospital systems, fire and ambulance agencies, public health providers, and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality patient care in prehospital and emergency medical systems. The EMS Office is responsible for planning, implementing, evaluating, and improving local EMS systems, including prehospital and relevant hospital services like trauma and pediatrics. The office employs program teams focused on Prehospital Standards, Community Paramedicine, Clinical Programs, EMS Administration, and Epidemiology and Surveillance.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, AND two (2) years of professional administrative experience in planning, implementing and monitoring an EMS or disaster medical program; OR, Six (6) years of professional administrative experience in planning, implementing and monitoring an EMS or disaster medical services program which could include experience as an administrator in a public agency, public or private ambulance service, hospital emergency department manager or EMS agency coordinator.
  • Experience in EMS or related emergency health care administration.
  • Current California licensure at the Registered Nurse or Paramedic level.
  • Recent clinical or administrative experience related to the delivery of EMS, Emergency Department, or immediately related fields.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Possession of a valid National Provider Identification Number (NPI) at the time of employment.
  • Must hold or obtain CPR for Healthcare Providers, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within one year of appointment.
  • California licensed Paramedics must hold or obtain San Diego County Paramedic Accreditation and/or an EMSA-approved Community Paramedic credential within one year of appointment.
  • California licensed Registered Nurses must hold or obtain Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN), Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), or Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification credentials within one year of appointment.
  • Must arrange transportation for field travel, requiring the ability to arrange transportation to different worksites, meetings, or field work.

Nice To Haves

  • A valid CA Registered Nurse license is highly desirable for the Specialty Care Systems Option.

Responsibilities
