About The Position

Diabetes Canada is seeking a Coordinator, D-Camps to support their Mission Team and Diabetes Camp program. This role provides leadership to summer camp programs and year-round program operations, ensuring alignment with D-Camps National Guidelines and provincial camping association standards. The Coordinator is responsible for all program areas of camp, directly supporting the seasonal leadership team by developing quality programs, purchasing, contributing to hiring seasonal staff, and facilitating inter-departmental cooperation for a successful D-Camps program experience. This is a 13-month contract position.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in a relevant discipline
  • 3-5+ years of camp experience with both staff and volunteer supervision and management expertise
  • Direct experience working with children or youth
  • Standard First Aid
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, volunteers, and staff
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills developed through progressively responsible experience in a supervisory role; ability to encourage, motivate staff and volunteers, acknowledge and appreciate contributions; takes the opportunity to be involved in partnerships and collaborations

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, plans, and implements D-Camps programs (including digital events, summer camp, leadership development programs, family camps, weekend events, Diabetes Canada events, and alumni events) in accordance with program plans.
  • Coordinates, plans, and implements D-Camps programs and represents and promotes Atlantic D-Camps to the local, provincial, and relevant camping communities.
  • Functions as Program Lead for all assigned year-round programs with responsibility for the supervision and evaluation of program staff, including hiring, on-boarding, and payroll for staff and volunteers.
  • Engages in operational planning and collaborates to ensure high standards of service and program delivery.
  • Works in partnership with all D-Camps staff and volunteers to ensure alignment with D-Camps national guidelines and provincial camping association standards.
  • Explores opportunities and innovative practices to realign existing area camping and youth programs, targeting best practices and ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Ensures the camp culture and community focuses on a positive experience for all campers, staff, and volunteers; cultivates relationships with alumni and camp families, responding to survey results and suggesting changes based on feedback.
  • Manages contract relationships with third-party providers for program operations (e.g., facility rentals, food service, transportation).
  • Ensures all requirements for peer reviews, audits, and Ministry requirements are met through staff training, program setup, surveys, and staff management, including health and safety, risk management plans, and audit requirements.
  • Manages inventories of equipment and supplies.
  • Oversees and coordinates all communications with camper families, staff, and volunteers; coordinates the camp program applications and registration software (CampBrain).
  • With support from the Sr. Manager, D-Camps, ensures all program-related expenses are in line with budget requirements and adaptations are made to remain on budget.
  • Supports communication, marketing, and social media initiatives, including D-Camps social media platforms and collection of materials for camp initiatives.
  • Understands the legal responsibility to recognize and report suspected child abuse to the Children's Aid Society.
  • Participates in training, and trains or ensures training is provided to employees, contractors, and volunteers on safe job procedures, safety policies, reporting requirements, and emergency procedure protocols.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to camp instructors and camp volunteers.
