About The Position

VERSANT is seeking an experienced political editor to help lead MS NOW Digital’s expanding news coverage, primarily focused on politics, as well as select breaking and trending news. The editor will help shape coverage of the 2028 presidential campaign by identifying distinctive storylines, driving original reporting and scoops, elevating stories across platforms, and coordinating with the D.C. bureau and breaking news team. The role calls for strong news judgment, excellent writing and editing skills, knowledge of journalistic standards, familiarity with the MS NOW voice and brand, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure newsroom. The position is based in Washington, D.C. The regular schedule is 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Friday, with flexibility as breaking news demands. The position is represented by the Writers Guild of America East.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant working experience.
At least 8 years of experience working in a newsroom environment.
At least 8 years of experience working in a strictly digital shop.
Ability to edit quickly and accurately.
Experience working in breaking news and political news.
Desire to work in a creative, demanding, and competitive environment.
Willingness to work in Washington, D.C.
Unrestricted work authorization in the United States.

Experience as an assignment editor at a major news publication covering politics.

Responsibilities

Identify distinctive political storylines and drive scoops for MS NOW Digital.
Coordinate with the D.C. bureau and breaking news teams to deliver timely, high-quality journalism.
Stay informed about the 2028 presidential campaign and its candidates; track reporter deployment and linear TV plans, and read widely.
Help lead live blog coverage as needed.
Collaborate with editorial and platform teams to optimize reader engagement.
Work with platform producers to keep the homepage updated and fresh, and contribute to headlines, push alerts, and newsletter production.
Edit and occasionally write breaking news and enterprise articles during evening hours on major headlines.
