About The Position

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Manufacturing Operations Coordinator to oversee the processes and baling of incoming recycling materials to ensure they are acceptable for sale. This role involves assigning and overseeing production, safety, and housekeeping duties, and actively participating in and encouraging employee involvement in Health and Safety Programs. The coordinator will supervise production operations, train and coach operators, conduct performance counseling, and manage shift schedules. Responsibilities include coordinating production startups, shutdowns, and changeovers, ensuring appropriate staffing levels, conducting shift meetings, meeting production goals, and maintaining quality control. The role requires operating within standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs), communicating with other supervisors and management, ensuring a clean and safe work area, completing shift paperwork, and assisting in production as needed. Training will be provided in Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, Confined Space, Aerial, Loader, Bobcat, Forklift, and balers. The position also involves maintaining the plant’s preventative maintenance program.

Requirements

  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of recycling processes, procedures, and machinery.
  • Two to five years of manufacturing experience.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.
  • Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Communication skills with diverse staff.
  • Ability to lift materials and products up to 45 pounds.
  • Willingness to use safety equipment including eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hard hats.

  • Authorization Training in Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, Confined Space, Aerial, Loader, Bobcat, Forklift, and balers (will be trained in-house).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise production operations in accordance with plant policies and procedures.
  • Train and coach operators.
  • Conduct employee performance counseling.
  • Manage shift schedule including workstation assignments, rotations, employee training, vacations, breaks, overtime, and backup for absent employees.
  • Coordinate production startups, shutdowns, and changeovers.
  • Coordinate with Operations Manager for appropriate staffing levels.
  • Schedule and conduct shift meetings.
  • Responsible for meeting shift production goals.
  • Responsible for quality control and making adjustments to produce product within specifications.
  • Reject product outside of specifications.
  • Operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs).
  • Communicate with other Shift Supervisors and the Operations Manager.
  • Ensure a clean and safe work area.
  • Complete shift paperwork.
  • Assist in production as necessary.
  • Receive Authorization Training in Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, Confined Space, Aerial, Loader, Bobcat, Forklift, and balers.
  • Maintain and aid the plant’s preventative maintenance program.
