About The Position

The Cook prepares, cooks, seasons, and serves adequate, attractive, nutritious, and balanced meals according to scheduled menus. The role includes preparing a variety of foods and performing assigned duties in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and company policies and procedures. The Cook follows standard recipes while making decisions consistent with experience, observes food for quality and appearance, and serves meals according to dietary guidelines and portion-control requirements. The position is scheduled Friday through Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., with a stated pay range of $22.50 to $23.50.

Requirements

Demonstrate the core values of Love, Kindness, Honesty, Goodness, Fairness, and Respect.
At minimum, be able to read and write English.
Be able to prepare and cook a variety of foods in large quantities.
Be aware of special diets, seasoning requirements, cooking times, and temperature controls.
Be able to estimate food quantities, limit waste, and use leftovers while serving attractive, appetizing meals.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma.
Previous experience in the dietary department of a health care facility.

Responsibilities

Prepare and handle food so that it is palatable, appetizing, and attractive.
Comply with meal schedules and follow standard recipes.
Apply proper food-handling techniques and understand the hazards of improper food handling.
Estimate food quantities, portion servings, follow portion-control guidelines, and limit waste.
Prepare vegetables, fruit, meat, fish, and fowl for cooking.
Taste, smell, and observe food to ensure it conforms to recipes and appearance standards.
Serve food according to dietary guidelines and check each tray for completeness and accuracy.
Cook, bake, roast, stew, and steam-cook meats, fish, and fowl; prepare gravies, stocks, dressings, sauces, and soups.
Prepare cold meats, sandwiches, griddle cakes, cooked cereals, and beverages.
